I Love Rock and Roll

Truth is, it’s the Old Time Rock and Roll that I really love.  I love digging up the old stuff that others have forgotten about.  Here is an example:  In the 1950’s Pat Boone recorded a song that has almost been forgotten.  It went like this:

    Wish I didn’t have to think about it; I wish it wasn’t so,

    But if Einstein couldn’t get around it;  I’m sure I’ll have to go.

    So will Mom and Dad, Uncle Harry and baby sister to;

    Cause if death could take the Virgin Mary you know it won’t

    miss you.

    Cause everybody dies; Everybody dies,

    It’s a sad but true fact of life, everybody dies.

    And everybody knows that everybody goes

    You just sing your song and then move along,

    Cause everybody dies

When Death Changed Rock and Roll

In 1959 a small airplane crashed near the farming community of Clear Lake, Iowa.  Three American Rock and Roll idols were killed that day. They were,  Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.P. “The Big Bopper”  Richardson.

It was a history changing event that has often been called  “The Day The Music Died”.  You probably remember these lyrics from the song written in their memory

A long, long time ago...
I can still remember
How that music used to make me smile.

And I knew if I had my chance
That I could make those people dance
And, maybe, they’d be happy for a while.

But February made me shiver
With every paper I’d deliver.
Bad news on the doorstep;
I couldn’t take one more step.

I can’t remember if I cried
When I read about his widowed bride,
But something touched me deep inside
The day the music died.

Death is a fact of life and everyone knows it.  We all know that down the road somewhere each of us will die.

Jesus’ Death Changed All Human History

The American calendar is changed because of Jesus Christ.  Every Christmas we remember His birth, Every Good Friday we remember His Crucifixion,  and every Easter Sunday we remember His resurrection.  He was indeed a history-changing figure.

Isn’t it strange that Christians think about their Founder’s death and find something to be happy about?  The reason is that Jesus, who had no sins of His own,  took our sins upon Himself and died in our place. He died and rose again for us.  Read about Jesus in your Bible.

I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,  and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures,  - 1 Corinthians 15:3-4

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord  -  Romans 3:23
